Hi Jared! If you know anyone who loved the Fireblades as much as you did that wears a 44, I’ve got 3 brand new pairs on Ebay right now. You look as if you’d wear a bigger size (?)
Has anyone found a good replacement for the fireblade yet? I cannot find them in my size anywhere anymore and am unsure of what shoe to look at next. Any tips would be greatly appreicated. Thanks –
I too was sad when Sportiva decided to discontinue the Fireblade. Lately I’ve been running in the Vertical K, which, as it turns out I REALLY like. It’ not as protective as the Fireblade, but after I got used to it I actually almost prefer it.
Jared – your mastery of Mount Olympus is AMAZING!! I have watched it several times and have shared it with countless others. I am a huge fan of the Sportiva Fireblade (especially in Orange!!) and your slabs run is the best commercial on earth for what those shoes can do (if on the feet of a great athlete) – great torsional support on a low to the ground racing flat for great trail and “scree” running, sticky rubber minimal lugs for the great “climbing” that you are doing and even the “skiing” that you are doing down the mountain works via the shallow minimal outsole lugging – don’t think you would have such a smooth ride on most trail running shoes with deep lugs. La Sportiva isn’t going forward with that shoe next Spring – I’m stocking up while I can!! Thanks for the greatest performance of “MOUNTAIN running!”

You’re too kind. Yes, it’s a total bummer that Sportiva is discontinuing the Fireblade. I consider it to be the most versatile shoe around and I’m often laughed at for the extremely wide array of activities that I use them for. I ran the Wasatch 100 2 weeks ago in a brand new pair, right out of the box. They fit my foot so well that I never have any issues. I’ll be trying to stock up on a few pairs as well. There are some new shoes coming out in 2012 that look to be very promising….
Awesome, Jared! Fantastic workout, must’ve hurt on the way up 😉
What LS model are you wearing that gave you the protection on the rocks, the grip in the snow and grip on the wet rocks? Looks like Fireblades, which are no longer made. I usually wear the Crosslites (originals), but just ordered a pair of the Electrons to see what they are like.
Hi Steve, great to hear from you and nice to see you the other day at Speedgoat. I am wearing the Fireblade, my favorite shoe to date. I use it for just about everything! To my knowledge they still make them… Strangely I like the Raptors, a big seemingly clunky shoe, but it has INCREDIBLY sticky rubber and they last forever. Try them out sometime. Take care, Jared
Jared, have run in the Raptors and they didn’t fit my wide forefeet. The shoe I’m really getting into now is the LS Electron, awesome soft upper and a little bit of cushion for those races too long for the Crosslite. Here’s a little video I make mention of them while running in the Santa Fe mountains. https://picasaweb.google.com/115735202507108304958/82011ThreePeaksRun#5640529847457722498

I’ve been trying to fit rock climbing back into my life, but I can’t seem to find the time with all the running. Now I see the light – they aren’t mutually exclusive!
Really inspiring stuff there, Jared. Thanks for posting! I love the pure mountain running aesthetic of this line and the dialed competence with which you lace it. I swear, if you were 5’6″ and 120lbs you’d be Kilian Jornet. Of course, he doesn’t exactly pull 5.13, though, either…

I understand people who pay $100+ per month for 1 single hyperlink from the PR7-pr9 site.
