pack, poles, and emergency blanket… check.

Well, with only 2.5 hours to go until the start of the race, the energy is building in Chamonix.  This is a foreign experience to me with the number of people and the amount of community involvement in the race.  The race starts at 6:30 PM (France time), which is 10:30 AM back in mountain time.  The main website is www.ultratrailmb.com, but it’s a bit tricky to navigate.  FYI, there are 3 races going on concurrently: the Petit Trot Leon (PTL), the CCC, and the Ultra Trail Mont Blanc (UTMB).  I am doing the UTMB, which is useful as you navigate the site.  The best link for info is here http://live.ultratrailmb.com/index.php.

From here you can click : “Fiches Courers” -> 3084 for “Dossard” to see my times in/out of checkpoints.  My bib number is 3084.

You can also click on “Tableau passages” -> “Tour de Mont Blanc” -> under Choix du tableau (scratch) click “Du 1er au 100eme” to see the top 100 for example.

And, it looks like they’ve got a cool google earth plug-in that might be useful for tracking, although it isn’t clear to me at this point that it is working.  But try it here: http://stayloc.ultratrailmb.com/GEview.php

  2. Hi Derek,

It’s so great to hear from you, thanks for posting on my blog and letting me know that you check it out frequently. It motivates me to add content more frequently knowing that someone actually cares. 🙂

I just posted an entry overviewing my experience at the UTMB race this past weekend. Take a gander at it when you have a moment.

Say hi to Laura and the rest of the family.

    Take care,

    Jared

  3. Jared – way to go man! I check the blog about every day to see all your happenings. Yes I do live vicariously thru you as I’m turning into the dreaded middle-aged man (36 years young). What an incredible race and trip. Laura and I were in Zermatt a couple years ago…I think we even have pictures of the same cow! Your inspiring man…can’t wait to read all the gory details in your writeup.

    Derek

  4. Thanks Ness, Ry, and Erik for your support. UTMB was absolutely incredible. I had a REALLY rough race, and I finished much differently that I had planned on, but the experience was amazing. It was special in so many ways. The week I had before the race was superb as we travelled through the most beautiful parts of the Alps, wrapping up the journey in Chamonix for the race. Wow, my life is so great. I’m working on a more elaborate write-up of the experience so check back on the blog soon.

  5. Way to go Jared!!! Can’t wait to hear all about it.
