Hardrock tomorrow….

Well, tomorrow is the big day!  Mindy and I drove down last night, I checked in bright and early, enjoyed Dale Garland’s usual charismatic speech, and then got a bite to eat.  The weather couldn’t be more perfect right now.  It’s actually even a bit hot.  This bodes well for the night where I always like it if I don’t have to add any layers.  My support crew is unbelievable: Mindy, mom, Steve, Heather, Keith, Ryan, Becky, and possibly Mike.  I feel so loved.

The best part of Dale’s speech was when several folks (Kyle Skaggs and James Varner to name a few) got up and took off their tops, revealing their bright yellow Dewalt tee-shirts that said, “Guaranteed Tough”.  Everyone got up and cheered for John Dewalt who is 72 years old and is going after ANOTHER Hardrock finish.  He is my hero!  One tough bastard.  It makes me chuckle inside because I think back to the many comments I’ve received from people I work with usually in their 40s who say something to the effect of, “Jared when you get to be my age you start to slow down…. the knees of a 40 year old body just can’t take that kind of abuse”.  The average age of this years Hardrock competitors is 46 years old, the oldest is John at 72.  This goes to show that getting old is largely in you mind…..

I guess I’ve got 44 good years left in me.  🙂
